Victory Garden, Recession Garden, or just Our Garden!

Wow! are we are having fun with this good earth! Here is a photo of our little garden plus the one that will go on either side of Mom's and our fence. The previous photos are of Mom's raised bed. Charlie is digging, Mom is advising and "Roxie" is trying to contain her excitement for the whole event.







This morning we got a nice surprise. Look at the beautiful squash flowers that greeted us when we went out in the front yard!

We got our first taste of some little grape tomatoes this evening. They were delicious! We finished the bed that is on either side of the fence. I think it is going to be fun to have that space as well as the raised beds.
It is suppose to get hot this weekend -- in the 90's yikes! Almost time for the air conditioning!

Mom and Chuck












Well, my husband, Chuck, has been very busy trying to build a raised bed garden for my Mom, and also one for us. For those that have visited us before, you know that we have lots of trees. Since sun is such a valuable "garden growing commodity" we had to place the beds in just the right places.
Hers is now complete and after adding the final mushroom compost (6 bags no less), we finished planting the vegetables yesterday. He designed the beds so that they would be high enough for us to sit comfortably on the little ledge seats he put on both sides. (weeding was never so easy)! It works very well! Chuck built Moms last Sunday and when I arrived home from Chain of Parks, Mom had the wine glasses ready for the "garden toast."

He has worked on ours all day today with some help from Mom and our friend Joe, and hopefully it will be ready for the mushroom compost tomorrow. Then we can begin the fun part of planting some vegetables. We will all work on them together. The bed at Mom's has beans, tomatoes (several varieties), cucumbers, eggplant, bell peppers (green and red), and some hot peppers plus several varieties of basil.

We have had a very beautiful and a very productive weekend!

I finished my residency for VSA Florida last week and tomorrow will be the first Monday in several months that I haven't gone to teach. This residency was a good one and I cannot begin to tell you how much I appreciate the students' efforts in the art projects I presented and how much I value and appreciate their teachers!

Beautiful Day but a rough day for Bump!!

What is this? A llama? An Alpaca?














It is my little cat "Bump." I'm writing about Bump today because he had to go to our veterinarian's. Unfortunately, he is a "tripod" for now as he has sustained an injury to his back left foot. He seems to get along famously on 3 legs, but it is just temporary. We are not sure what happened. It is swollen, becoming infected, but has not yet abscessed. Our veterinarian, (since 1983) gave him an antibiotic and some other shots. I'm also giving him some pills. He takes them well compared to some of his 'house mates.' He is asleep right now and doesn't feel 100 per cent but he is on the mend!














It is a beautiful day . . .a little chilly but that's alright. Bump will be enjoying this one on the sofa. Here is photo of Bump and me when he was feeling better. (He got a little "annoyed" at the vets because he was so sore). They know, of course, that he usually is a happy-go-lucky feline (with people) who purrs ALL THE TIME. Really.

Wow, what beautiful weather! We all face a number of challenges, with the economy or perhaps in our personal lives but I want to take a minute to express gratitude for this wonderful sunny day.

The azaleas are in full bloom which provides quite a contrast to the old banana trees that I left standing from last year. I wanted to see if leaving them would help generate more bananas. That is to yet be determined, however, although their countenance is not very pretty, the sound of those "vestiges of cold weather," the old brown banana leaves rubbing against each other in a warm breeze, is so pretty! It really is a lovely sound.

My husband is outside washing the cars. Someone has made an offer for his old Caprice. He loves that 8 cylindar dinosaur (and he is not a car freak at all), but I know if he accepts it, he will miss the old land yacht!

Our exhibit at the Artport Gallery will soon come to a close. Those in the Tallahassee area please stop by if you can. I also have some new work at Signature Gallery.

Also, drop by my website every now and then. I try to keep updates on things professional and those things happening on the home front.

Hello out there all you Valentines!

So, on this day after Valentine's Day, look what I got for breakfast this morning! Chuck fixed a "vegetable bread-boat omelet!" It was delicious! This is one of his concoctions. He first carves out the bread, creating the "boat" and cooks it in the oven for a while. Then he adds egg to his vegetable mixture (and they are fresh vegetables) which he has already prepared. It is comprised of fresh asparagus, black beans, onions, broccoli, red bell peppers, carrots, zucchini, and then cheese is added on the top. He then fills the " bread-boat" with the mixture and finishes cooking it in the oven. It is simply delicious! I'm am lucky that he is such a good cook . . . and he likes to cook!

I hope all of you had a very Happy Valentine's Day. We had a nice day. I received a beautiful free-standing crystal butterfly from Chuck and I gave him a very nice piece by glass artist Susan Frisbee.

My printer broke on Friday night, and we went out to find another one. We picked one out, but it was special order so I won't get it until sometime during the week. In the meantime, Chuck came home and fixed my printer. So, he will take it, and I will get the new one! I'm excited.

My Mom came over this weekend and we played Hearts. It was a lot of fun. Both Mom and Chuck win most of the time. (I win more on the computer game of Hearts than I do with real cards)!

What a Difference a Few Days Make!

People! It is beautiful here today! Here is the walkway leading from the porch off of my studio.

And, last but by no means least, here is one of "my trusty sidekicks," Bump, checking out a variety of sights and sounds!

Wow, I love a day like this! Florida woods are something special. Although most of the trees (beech, water oak, black cherry, hickory) have lost their leaves, there are a few "greenies" that stay throughout the year like the Magnolias and the little Palms.

Well, I'm going to enjoy the rest of this day. Have a good evening and a good day tomorrow, everyone!

Is it cold enough for you!?

Yikes! 14 degrees Wednesday night and 16 degrees last night! Welcome to the Sunshine State!
However, no fear, the weatherman has promised that it will be in the 70's this weekend. The kitties are taking naps right now.

It has been a busy week! I had also planned to take some photos of the exhibit at the Artport Gallery and post one here and on my website (www.terriecorbettglass.com), but I haven't been able to get back out there since the opening reception. Do drop by if you are flying in or out of Tallahassee. There are 18 of us in this exhibit. There is a wide variety both in materials, concept and execution.

For those that may be in Tallahassee right now, there is a very good exhibition at the LeMoyne Center for the Visual Arts. Tonight is First Friday Gallery Hop so it will be opened later than usual. You will definitely enjoy it. It is called "4" and the work of the four artists (plus one in the Hoover Gallery) is well worth a visit! I have been the artists representative on the Board at LeMoyne now for close to a year. It has been a pleasure working with the staff and other board members. Those '4' artists in the current exhibit are: Mariann Kearsley, Jessie Lovano-Kerr, Valerie Goodwin and Denise Choppin.
